Hurricane Ike

Eugene road sign

Hurricane Ike is turning the major highways in Galveston and Houston into rivers. Harris County (where Houston is) has a population of 3.9 million, Galveston county has a population of 275,000. 3 million are thought to be without power. Tens of thousands of people did not evacuate from Galveston area and have to be rescued. Baton Rouge may have gotten bad damage and power outages from Gustav, but Houston got FUCKED. That is the last place in the country I would want to be in the next few weeks. Hope everyone stays safe and that the city doesn't fall into chaos during recovery.

I should really be sleeping right now.

First week of school has been incredibly busy. From 8am-11pm I've been working on something. Classes are going well. I really like my stats teacher (McKenna). He is really nice and says corny jokes/puns all the time, WHICH I LOVE. Its also in Dodson now instead of the Cox Comm building which is much nicer. I walked into my ethics class and thought the guy standing in the front of the room was a student. The professor (Song) looks like he is 25 and already has his PhD and I know this isn't his first year teaching. He is really intellegent and expressive and engaging with the class. And he articulates and speaks loudly, which really helps me pay attention. My Econ professor is pretty cool too. He explained the class in one scentence "why rich countries are rich and poor countries are poor." Its very macro and we will be studying long-term time spans, like 40-2000 years. The first lecture was very interesting, hopefully it will remain that way.

So we learned two days before school started, that the President of Wildlife Society (student organization/club) had to drop out for the semester. Which left the VP, me the secretary, and the treasurer. Neither the VP nor the treas could commit, so now I'm the president. And I have been scrambling all day for the past 3 days to get stuff together. And I still have so much to do. I don't even have all the paperwork and keys I need. I'm stressin out a little about all this. We have to have our first meeting next wednesday and I'm incredibly nervous. Nothing like getting over major social anxiety by running the organization.

I'm meeting my grandma tomorrow for lunch at Chilis, I'm very excited about that. I gotta go to the grocery store, I am OUT of food. Friday I'm meeting with the other wildlife officers to all get on the same page. Saturday is the first football game (FINALLY got my tickets). I will have to be at the tailgate to help out being that thats one of the wildlife society's roles. So gotta get up early to tailgate, game (and expected heat exhaustion) at 4pm. After we kick their butts I gotta get home (which is always an ordeal after a game) and shower and get dressed to head to New Orleans. Meeting Nic and Brandon and Linz at the Whirling Dervish for their closing night. Sun and Mon I'll probably go to the aquarium to volunteer because it will be a busy weekend. Sometime in all this I have to actually do school work and continue GRE studying, which is going well.

Guh, I NEED to go to bed.

3rd Batman speculations

So I think most of the Nolan Batman fan base wants a 3rd movie, but what do you want to see in it? Villains? Allies? Actors? A new Rachael?

Yeah I know 3 posts in a day is overkill but I have to talk about this.

I just finished watching Brokeback Mountain. This was the most beautiful and heart-wrenching movie. Seriously, I feel like my insides have been turned out. If you haven't seen this movie (and have the mental capacity to understand that love knows no gender) please see it. But make sure you don't have anything else to do after. I'm a freaking emotional wreck. If you have seen it, you know the scene where Ennis calls Lureen and they do a short, soundless flashback? I felt like I had been punched in the stomach. I wanted to throw up. I don't have the words to describe how this movie made me feel. I'm going to have to stay up for another hour reading just to separate myself from this story.

Meh.
Wanted 2 (TBA)
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Can't wait.
Hairspray 2 (TBA)
Anchorman 2 (2010)
No info out on this, I hope the style stays true to the first one.
The Descent 2 (2009)
Tinker Bell (2008)
I guess thats a Peter Pan sequel... oh nvm its animated and straight to dvd
Cars 2 (2012)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 1 (2010)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2 (2011)
I haven't seen or read any of them
Step Up 3-D (TBA)
lmao, really? I couldn't find if it was straight to dvd
Transporter 3
I still haven't seen the first one, I've heard it was good
Untitled Bourne 4th Movie
They don't have a title but the lead characters have agreed
Cloverfield 2 (TBA)
Plot hasn't been announced yet, but I've heard it may be another 1st person POV but possibly from that other camera that the main characters encounted on the bridge. I dunno, I really liked the first one so I hope this one will be good.
Scary Movie 5 (2008)
vomit
The Grudge 3 (2008)
I didn't like the second one, and I doubt this one will live up to the first
The Holy Road (TBA)
"The title "Holy Road" refers to the transcontinental railroad, which is a symbol of the clash of civilizations." This is the sequel to Dances with Wolves. I dunno, I've never seen Dances with Wolves but I'm interested.
Saw 5 (2008)
Oh come on! Does it really matter what the plot is? Same shit, different movie.
Final Destination 4
Of course. I guess the teenagers flock to these movies?
Crank 2: High Voltage (2009)
Haven't seen the first one but I wanted to.
James Bond 23 (2010)
Not to be confused with Quantum Solace which comes out this year I think. Same lead actor, Daniel Craig. I have to admit, I've only seen 1 James Bond movie.
Fast and Furious 4 (2009)
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, sounds like the original cast I think.
The Chronic(what)les of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)
Haven't seen the first two, I don't like movies where the kids are the (unrealistic) heroes.
Wild Hogs 2 (2010)
Lol, I didn't think the first one was a money maker but I guess it was.
Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian (2009)
Ok, I admit, I thought the first one was really cute. I'll see the second one when my bf's nieces get it on dvd
Transformers 2 (2009)
That was expected.
Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2008)
Wow.
Spider-Man 4 (2011)
Ugh, what a beating thats gonna be.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 (2009)
Hollywood has officially run out of ideas.
The Pink Panther 2 (2009)
What?! The first one was a bomb! At least Beyounce won't be in this one.
Angels and Demons (2009)
This is based off the book by Dan Brown, the "prequel" to DaVinci Code. I actually liked this book more DaVinci Code. But I'm not looking forward to Tom Hanks as the main character again, he was so lethargic and not like the character in the book.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaur (2009)
I can't wait, I loved the first 2. And its all the same cast!
Mortal Kombat: Devastation (2010)
LOL, now I HAVE to see the first one.
Untitled Friday the 13th Project (2009)
They just can't leave well-enough alone.
Resident Evil 4 (TBA)
The last one was so terrible, is a 4th really neccessary?
Sin City 2
I can't find a solid date, IMDB says its in preproduction and set to release in 2010 but I thought it was going to be sooner than that. Anyways, I'm excited, I loved the first one
Sin City 3: Hell and Back
status unknown, release is supposed to be 2009, but I'm pretty sure thats wrong.
Jeepers Creepers 3 (TBA)
I need to go back and give the first 2 another try. I remember thinking they were soo stupid, but after Nic and Brandon and Linz talked about how much they liked them, I dunno, I'll just have to watch them again.
Toy Story 3 (2010)
The first 2 were good, maybe this one will be also. Same cast.
Mrs. Doubtfire 2 (TBA)
Why mess with a good thing? At least it will still be Robin Williams.
Little Fockers (TBA)
Crap, thats gonna be awful. I'm only saying that cause I usually don't like kids in movies.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
I'm pretty excited about this!
Shrek Goes Fourth
BEATING.
The Goonies 2 (TBA)
The Ring 3 (TBA)
Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans (2009)
I can't remember for sure, but I think we walked out on the second one in theatres?
Austin Powers 4 (TBA)
Production status: rumored, starring: Mike Myers.
Old School Dos (2009)
Main actors aren't known but its rumored to be the same.

Now that you are completely beat down, what are your thoughts on some of these movies?

BATMAN

Dark Knight was INCREDIBLE.

It was 2.5 hours long and usually I don't like loooong movies in theaters because I get restless and want it to be over (ex. Pirates 3 and Spiderman 3). But I didn't want this movie to end. Every time the current action was concluding I was just hoping it wasn't the end of the movie. Heath Ledger stole the show. He was absolutely the best character and best actor. He was also the source of most of the comedy (as it should be). I'm still sad that Heath Ledger died and seeing this performance makes it even more wrenching because we won't get to see what else he is capable of. I liked Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel better than Katie Holmes, but she was completely shadowed by Ledger, Bale, and Eckhart. I wish they would've cast Maggie from the start. Aaron Eckhart did a great job as Harvey Dent; I was impressed because Two-Face has always been my favorite villain. He was so convincing. There's no way to describe how good this movie was. The audience I was with clapped multiple times during the movie (starting with the Joker's "magic trick"). It was so much deeper and darker than any previous Batman movie. The script was fantastic, especially when Joker talked about how he and Batman completed each other and the ending. Thinking about the Dark Knight compared to Schumacher's ridiculous Batman and Robin (with Mr. Freeze) makes me laugh at how black and white they are. I really hope this group of writers and film makers continue with the franchise. (And I love that Christian Bale said he won't come to work if he sees Robin in the script, I completely agree). Please do yourself a favor and see this movie in theaters.
